After hustling around the house the past week it was time to get organized for the beginning of the traveling season. The first NRC race is to be held in
Since we race on Monday we left on Sunday to save money so we only had to pay for one evening at a hotel. Morgan and I left on Sunday at 1pm so that we could get our ride in before sitting in the car for about 7 hours. Our teammate Jenn X was already up there doing some work for Road magazine. Morgan and I had a great drive in the mini van which was pretty uneventful. Per X’s advice we stopped off and got one dollar bills for the bridge much to the delight of the attendant at the mini-mart thinking that we were on our way to a strip joint. Our faithful GPS unit “Jill” kept us on track and even put up with our many pee stops on the way. Below is a photo of the hills around

As the drive went on, Morgan’s compost pile of fruit kept growing. I have never seen someone eat so much fruit. I think a new nickname is in the making. Our dollar bills never got used because the mini van has Fast Track in it thanks to Morgan’s dad and we flew through the toll. Score!!!!! X called with updates on the hotel which she said was rockin’. She was eating the warm chocolate cookies that they give you and was on her way to get a massage because they had a masseuse there. “Jill” said our estimated time of arrival was 8pm and the masseuse left at 7pm. Oh well.
The hotel room at the Doubletree was nice and my rib eye steak with sweet potatoes really hit the spot for a pre-race meal. After dinner we caught the Versus TV coverage of the prologue of the Tour of CA which was awesome. Go Fabian!
